Position Objective:
Contribute to the provisions of high-quality, cost-effective healthcare as a provider of direct and
indirect patient care and by effective collaboration with other members of the health care team.
Functions as a competent, adaptable member of the healthcare team across multiple Women’s
and Children’s specialty areas.
Position Overview
The Women’s & Children’s Float Pool Registered Nurse is a versatile and compassionate
clinician who provides patient-centered care across specialized units, including:
• Labor & Delivery
• Postpartum
• Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Level III NICU)
• Inpatient Pediatrics including Pediatric Mental Health
This role requires flexibility, clinical excellence, and the ability to quickly adapt to varying patient
populations and care environments. The Float Pool RN plays a critical role in supporting safe,
high-quality outcomes for mothers, newborns, children, and their families.
Essential Job Duties:

1. Demonstrates advanced clinical nursing knowledge and skills across Women’s and
Children’s specialty areas as a float nurse
2. Demonstrates the ability to apply the nursing process effectively in the care of culturally
diverse patients and families. Demonstrates the ability to utilize all applicable laws,
policies, standards, guidelines and evidence-based practice in the provision of
patient/family care.
3. Organizes and reprioritizes patient care activities based on subtle and overt and/or
environmental changes.
4. Consistently and thoroughly assesses patients to collect data and identify learning needs
according to established standards and policies.
5. Utilizes a systematic, continuous and complete analysis of assessment data to develop
individualized problem lists for assigned patients.
6. Develops and individualizes a plan of care for each patient in accordance with
established standards, appropriate prioritization of problems/needs, and mutually agreed
upon goals.
7. Efficiently implements the patients plan of care in accordance with applicable standards,
policies, procedures and guidelines. Demonstrates proficiency in medication
administration, pain management and other unit or initiative specific skills.
8. Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of the plan (s) of care, making revisions and
recommendations based on analysis of patient responses to interventions.
9. Demonstrates the ability to assess the patients/family’s learning needs, readiness to
learn, learning style, and presence of barriers to learning. Demonstrates the ability to
develop, implement and evaluate teaching plans for patient populations in unit specialty
in accordance with applicable standards.
10. Demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge of growth and development across the life
span to the care of patients.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
• Minimum of two (2) years of acute care experience in Women’s and Children’s
services
• Ability to work independently in at least two (2) of the following areas:
Labor & Delivery
Postpartum
NICU
Inpatient Pediatrics
Required License/Certifications:
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (in accordance with organizational requirements)
• BLS certification required
• NRP certification required (within one year of hire if not current)
• PALS required for Pediatrics
• C-EFM required for Labor & Delivery
• ACLS preferred
